Monday Classes

YO RE MI

Ages: 2nd–4th Grades
This class meets in the MUSIC ROOM.
Children will gain a basic knowledge of the guitar: a brief history of the instrument, how it is designed, how to tune it, how to hold it, and the names of the strings. With practice, children will be able to play a few basic chords and songs.
*Guitars are not provided for this class, students may store their guitars in the music room on the day of class

JUMP!

Ages: K-4th Grade
This class meets in the REC ROOM.
JUMP is for kids who like to move. We start each class with stretching and warm-ups. This is followed by independent jump time and the popular long jump. Students start in the middle for long jump and work on timing and coordination. After a couple sessions all Jumpers get it and try to beat their individual records! Experienced Jumpers are more than welcome to return to improve their skills and be with friends.

SPANISH

This class meets in the COMMUNITY ROOM.
This class combines songs, dance, movement, crafts, and language activities to create a Spanish-learning experience unlike any other. Specially designed by a team of language-learning experts, our adventure classes aim to foster an interest in foreign languages and cultures as well as promote the development of a child’s five senses and linguistic abilities. In addition to learning basic vocabulary words and phrases (e.g. colors, numbers, animals etc.), all students will read “An Adventure in Peru” from our signature Lango Kids series. This story follows the Wen, Luc, Lucia and Cosmo the dog on their various adventures throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
*There is a minimum of 8 students for this class to run.

BASKETBALL

This basketball class is designed for one-on-one attention. Students will each work with their own ball during class to get a better handle of how to properly dribble. Students will walk away from the class with a basic knowledge of basketball drills and skills.

SUPER HERO COMICS

This class meets in the 3rd Grade BLACK WIDOWS ROOM.
Batman! Superman! Wonder Woman! Now it is your turn to create your own comic book super hero with super powers. You will draw a comic book starring your super hero that you can take home.

Hockey is a fast-paced team-building class in which your little athlete will learn to pass, stick-handle, and shoot balls and pucks while strengthening their gross motor skills, learning to work as a team, respecting one another, and having fun as they execute dynamic movements during basic drills and full-group scrimmages!

Impulse Labs

This class meets in the 2nd Grade Classroom.
This class is especially designed to teach programming concepts in the early grades, from pre-Kindergartners to first-graders. We use a play-based approach, and a combination of teaching tools, physical exercises and art to introduce computing and robotics to early learners. Students are introduced to basic programming concepts and they learn keyboarding and mousing skills as well as operating system basics for Linux.

This class meets in the LIBRARY.
Come and explore Mo Willem’s classic books, Elephant and Piggie!  We will read a different book each week while playing games, creating art, and acting out the adventures of these beloved best friends. While Elephant might ask, “This class is fun?” Piggie would respond “This class is fun!”

TEAM HANDBALL

This class meets in the REC ROOM.
Taking aspects from sports like basketball, hockey, and soccer, Team Handball is a relatively unknown fast-paced and exciting game. The children will develop skills like dribbling, throwing, and passing and catching. As well as strengthening gross motor skills and spatial awareness as they use teamwork, communication, and dynamic movements to work up and down the court to score goals and have fun!

As J.J. Walker would say, “This class is Dino-Mite!” In each class we will follow step-by-step instructions to draw a different dinosaur. This class is enjoyed by art enthusiasts and dino experts alike.

Impulse Labs

This class meets in the 2nd Grade Classroom.
This class introduces the programming environment and the Linux command-line to children in second grade and higher. Students learn to use a Raspberry Pi and learn to program Minecraft using the Python programming language. They learn keyboarding skills and how to navigate within a Linux terminal. The main goal of the class is to introduce students to a real development environment.  They learn how to write new code, how to run and how to debug it. Students get first-hand experience of how text-based programming and mathematics can solve Minecraft-world problems. The focus of this class is to make students familiar with the programming environment and to use their natural curiosity to lead them towards reverse-engineering.

BEJEWELED

This class meets in the BUMBLEBEES ROOM.
In our Bejeweled Class students will design their own line of Jewelry! AND students will make a specialized jewelry box for their new collection, including clip on earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. We will work with all sorts of beads and learn how to use jewelry tools.

This class meets in the LIBRARY.
Book Worms is a fun and imaginative literacy course in which friends will learn how narratives are constructed – learning about character development, plot, setting, etc—as they create their very own stories! We will practice writing as a group; each friend adding unique details that push the imaginative dream into incredible new directions. The pieces will be posted weekly to our blog (view the current blog here: http://coopbookworms.tumblr.com/ )/ Friends will also illustrate their stories and at the end of the session we try to compile and publish all of the literary masterpieces as a Short Story Collection!

SOCCER
