Community Events

The Co-op School hosts a number of annual events to bring our students and family members together. These events not only create a greater sense of community, but they also help raise money for our school.

Sunset Soiree

Held every July at Fort Greene Park, the Sunset Soiree marks the kick-off of the new school year. It’s an informal gathering where new and returning Co-op School families can socialize and meet incoming teachers and classmates. Pizza is provided!

Scholarship Gala

The Scholarship Gala is our biggest event of the year—roughly 400 Co-op School parents and supporters come together for the night—and an unparalleled evening of community, fun, and fundraising! All proceeds go directly to the school’s scholarship fund for families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend the school. In 2016, we raised $80,000!

Back to School Party

The Co-op School hosts a Back to School Party—with food, drink, and music sponsored by local businesses—so that parents and staff can let loose for the night to mingle and forget about managing the hustle and bustle of new schedules and transitions!

The Kids Gala!

Starting in 2018, students get to dress up for their very own kid-sized dance party, just like the Co-op adults do for the Scholarship Gala. It will be a night of games, dancing—and of course a selfie station!

Jog-a-Thon

In this popular fall fundraiser, parents, staff, and students take over Prospect Park to raise funds for the school by running or walking the loop of the park.

Comedy Night

LOL! Don’t miss this one! The Co-op School Community laughs the night away at our Comedy Night, where professional comedians take the stage.

Valentine’s Day Dance

The Valentine’s Day Dance is a great night of food, fun and dance!

Community Potluck

The Co-op School has been hosting a Community Potluck at both the preschool and elementary campuses for over ten years. Staff and families contribute a range of dishes toward the communal meal—from traditional turkey and stuffing to curries and tagine—just before the Thanksgiving break.

Fall Pumpkin Sale and Spring Plant Sale

Community members can get a pumpkin for the fall or purchase plants and seedlings to start growing their own gardens!

Author Series

Select Co-op parents open their home to an exclusive number of their fellow Co-op parents to host a series of author readings by acclaimed novelists from the community. Events occur in November, February, and May.

Marathon Bake Sale

Every November, the Co-op School organizes a Marathon Bake Sale to celebrate the New York Marathon. Parents contribute various baked goods such as breakfast breads, muffins, cupcakes, and pies. The Bake Sale organizers brave the cold winds to sell these treats and warm drinks to marathon spectators.

Story Night

Story Night is our Moth–inspired night where adults tell a life story in front of the school audience. It is the longest running event at the Co-op School and a great community bonding event.

Movie Nights

During our popular Movie Nights our community members are invited to watch family friendly movies, such as Finding Dory and Inside Out—at our campus in their PJs! Food and beverages are served.

Friends & Family Day Book Fair

Students come dressed as their favorite storybook characters for the day and then visit our onsite pop-up bookstore to purchase books in support of the school. Our Book Fair committee provides treats, readings, and games for after-school fun.
